PTS — win 2, tie 1. +/- is the official figure, capped at 7 runs
per game (Rule 30). +/- ALL counts every run and is the last tiebreaker before a
coin toss. Ties are broken by head-to-head, then fewest runs against, then +/- (max 7),
then +/- ALL, then a coin toss. In the Competitive division head-to-head is
used only when exactly two teams are tied — with three or more it is skipped, and the tie
goes straight to fewest runs against.
Pick your team to see every game you play and every game you umpire, in one list.
Seeding tiebreakers
Applied in order, until the tie is broken.
- Total points from the round robin (win 2, tie 1).
- Head-to-head, which works differently by division:
- Fun — always applies. With three or more teams tied, their records against each other are used.
- Competitive — applies only to a straight two-way tie. With three or more teams level on points this step is skipped and the tie goes to fewest runs against. If that still leaves exactly two teams level, head-to-head then decides them.
- Least number of total runs scored against.
- Highest plus/minus, based on a maximum of +/- 7 runs per game.
- Highest plus/minus, based on all runs scored during the round robin.
- A coin toss.
Teams from different groups never meet, so head-to-head is skipped when group winners — or group runners-up — are ranked against each other.
Competitive division
One group of 6. All 6 teams make the playoffs.
- Round 1 — the 1 and 2 seeds get a bye. 3 plays 6, 4 plays 5.
- Round 2 — 1 plays the winner of 4 v 5; 2 plays the winner of 3 v 6.
- Round 3 — the two Round 2 winners play the championship game.
Fun division
Six groups of 4. The top 2 from each group make the playoffs — 12 teams.
- Seeds 1–6 — the six group winners, ranked against each other.
- Seeds 7–12 — the six group runners-up, ranked against each other.
- Round 1 — seeds 1 through 4 get a bye. 5 v 12, 6 v 11, 7 v 10, 8 v 9.
- Round 2 — 1 v winner of 8/9, 2 v winner of 7/10, 3 v winner of 6/11, 4 v winner of 5/12.
- Round 3 — winner of (1 v 8/9) plays winner of (4 v 5/12); winner of (2 v 7/10) plays winner of (3 v 6/11).
- Round 4 — the two Round 3 winners play the championship game.
Worth remembering
- Round robin games can end in a tie. Playoff games go to extra innings — each inning starts with the team’s last out on 2nd base and one out.
- Round robin home team is decided by a coin toss; in the playoffs the higher seed chooses.
- Forfeited games are recorded as 7-0.
- Recorded run differential maxes out at 7 runs per game unless further tiebreakers are needed.
- Players must play at least one round robin game to qualify for the playoffs, unless they have been cleared by the tournament executive.
All umpire and tournament executive rulings are final.
Tournament Rules (2026)
Competitive and Fun divisions.
- $400 entry fee per team.
- Teams must have entry fee paid before 1st game on Saturday. Included with the entry fee the team must hand in a roster sheet (provided by the tournament executive) with a list of all team players and each player’s signature. If a player is younger than 18, a parent/guardian must sign for them.
- Every game will start with 3 pitches in honour of Sherri. These pitches will have no effect on the game.
- Warm-ups on the baseball diamond are not allowed. Warm-up on the grass prior to the previous game being finished.
- Hand in lineups for your game to the scorekeeper prior to the previous game being finished.
- Games are one hour in length and will start 5 minutes after the previous game is finished. Home team does not bat if they are ahead. If you want the extra at bat, take visitors if you win the coin toss.
- A new inning can not start after 50 minutes. Since the last inning is an open inning, the umpire must call last inning before 50 minutes are up. If the umpire is unsure if the last inning should be called, the umpire has the discretion to call ‘last inning’ in the middle of an inning if the ‘Visiting’ team is still at bat.
- No timed game will go beyond 60 minutes. If a game is in the middle of an inning at 60 minutes the score will revert to the end of the inning just completed.
- During the round robin the home team is decided by a coin toss. In the playoffs the higher seeded team will have the choice.
- The commitment line between 3rd base and home will be in effect. If a runner crosses/touches the commitment line, the runner can not return to 3rd base. A runner can not be tagged once they cross the commitment line. To get the out at home the defender must touch home plate (while in possession of the ball) before any body part of the runner touches the ground beyond the home plate line.
- There is a 5-run mercy rule per inning. The 7th or pre-determined last inning will be an open inning (unlimited runs scored).
- The infield fly rule is in effect. This includes a pop-up to the pitcher’s position.
- There may be one male and one female DH. The first player to hit the ball over the fence without a defending player touching the ball will be designated the DH. All other balls hit over the fence and not touched by a defender will be an out.
- If a defending player makes contact with a ball that goes over the fence it will not be considered a home run. Nor is it an out if the team already has a DH. It will be considered a 4-base error. All runners and batters will be awarded home.
- There must always be a minimum of 3 ladies in the field. If a team plays with only 2 ladies that team must take an out in the batting line-up and can only field 8 defenders.
- Teams may not play with less than 8 players.
- There will be no delay in game time because of players not arriving on time. Game will start on time and the offending team will have 10 minutes to field a team. If the team does not have the minimum # of players ready to play after 10 minutes, it will be considered a forfeit.
- Round robin games can end in a tie. Playoff games that end in a tie will play extra innings. Each inning will start with the team’s last out as a runner at 2nd base and one out.
- Each team may use 5 courtesy runners during a game. The courtesy runner does not have to be the last out. Courtesy runners may only be used for a runner at 1st base. Men must be replaced by a man and ladies replaced by a lady.
- Injured players may be removed from the batting order without any penalty. If a player is removed from the batting order, they may not return to the game in any capacity. If removing a player from the batting order results in the team having only 2 ladies, then the team must take an out for the removed player when it is the removed player’s turn to bat.
- Pitcher must use the pitching screen when pitching.
- If any batter (male or female) hits the pitching screen and/or the pitcher with a batted ball the batter will be called out.
- The catcher must remain behind home plate and in foul territory until the batter hits the ball.
- Runners may only leave a base after a batter makes contact with a pitched ball. No leadoffs or anticipations are allowed.
- Sliding is allowed at all bases including the home plate line.
- Metal cleats may not be used.
- Hardball bats may not be used.
- Only Thumbprint or ASA approved bats may be used.
- Forfeited games will be awarded a 7-0 score.
- Maximum recorded run differential (+/-) will be 7 runs unless additional tie breakers are needed. See playoff seeding rules.
- Players must play at least one round robin game to qualify for the playoffs unless they have been previously cleared by the tournament executive.
- Defense may not have more than 5 fielders (including catcher) on the infield dirt before the ball is hit.
- A batter cannot be forced out at 1st base once an outfield/rover position has played the ball. A runner can be tagged out going back to 1st base.
- The umpire may ask for clarification about which fielders are infielders pre-bat if it’s not clear (if less than 5 are playing on the infield dirt).
- No minimum number of defenders must start in the infield.
- All umpire rulings are FINAL.
- All tournament executive rulings are FINAL.
